Thank you for your interest in the Irvine Swim League! The information below should answer your questions regarding who can join ISL.  If you have more questions, please feel free to e-mail us through the Contact Us form.

Requirements for Membership

Irvine Swim League membership is limited to children living in the City of Irvine  aged 5-18 as of June 1 of the current swim season. Exceptions include: Swimmers who live outside of the city of Irvine but  who attend a school located within the city of Irvine. Non-resident swimmers may be approved on an individual basis by a majority vote of the Executive Board  provided that no resident swimmers are being displaced due to residency exceptions.

The Irvine Swim League is not a “learn to swim” program. The City of Irvine and numerous private lesson providers are available to help children learn to swim. To participate in the ISL swimmers must be “water safe.” There are no try-outs and pre-season swim clinics are not required.

Swimmers ages 5-8 years of age participate in 25-yard race events at ISL Swim  meets. They may compete in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke events and may also participate in relay events.

Swimmers ages 9-18 participate in 50-yard race events at ISL Swim meets. They compete in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and the 100-yard Individual Medley and may also participate in relays.

During the first week of practice, ISL coaches will be watching swimmers to evaluate  whether the swimmer is indeed “water safe” and ready to be on an ISL team. The ISL teams reserve the right to removed swimmers from the team if they are not water safe and could pose a hazard to themselves or others. The Irvine Swim League organization is committed to helping families find an ISL team to join for the summer. From Northpark to Turtle Rock, most families live within ten minutes of a team location. There are two types of teams in the ISL.

Which Team Do I Join?

Families living within a homeowner association neighborhood that has an ISL team  affiliation may choose to join their neighborhood team. There are 17 HOA affiliated teams in the ISL.For Irvine Families whose neighborhood does not have an affiliated ISL Team or who choose not to swim with their HOA affiliated team, there are 3 ISL City Teams  open to swimmers regardless of where they live in Irvine. These teams serve the North, Central and Southern areas if the City of Irvine.

All ISL teams handle their own membership registration and set their own team registration fee schedule. All teams may choose to register up to 130 swimmers, and most hold registration days in March or April.
